Kuaishou (also known as Kwai) is a Chinese video-sharing and live-streaming platform founded and launched in 2011. It is owned by the Chinese technology company Kuaishou Technology. The platform is popular in China, with a large user base of content creators who produce a variety of content, including comedy, vlogs, music, dance, and gaming. Kuaishou has also gained popularity outside of China, particularly in countries in Southeast Asia. In addition to its video-sharing and live-streaming features, Kuaishou also offers tools for content creators to edit and upload their videos, as well as a social networking feature that allows users to follow and interact with other users on the platform.
According to data from Questmobile, a market research firm, Kuaishou had approximately 500 million daily active users in China as of December 2021. In the same month, the platform had over 280 million monthly active users outside of China. In 2020, Kuaishou’s revenue was reportedly around $3.7 billion, and the company went public on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in March 2021. Kuaishou has faced some controversy and regulatory challenges in China, particularly related to the appropriateness of some content on the platform. Still, it has also received recognition for promoting creativity and entrepreneurship among its user base.
